Filip Hrgovic calls for Daniel Dubois rematch, but Frank Sanchez remains the likely next step

Filip Hrgovic has made his ambition clear after Daniel Dubois’s emphatic win over Fabio Wardley: he wants the champion and the opportunity to avenge their previous meeting.

The call-out and the likely route

A public call-out is not the same as a signed fight. Current reporting indicates that Hrgovic’s immediate path is still more likely to run through Frank Sanchez in an IBF mandatory contest before any Dubois rematch can be finalised.

That distinction is important in a division where several leading fighters are simultaneously pursuing title opportunities. Sanctioning-body obligations, contractual negotiations and broadcaster arrangements can all determine which contest is made first.

What it means

Hrgovic versus Sanchez would carry considerable significance on its own, potentially establishing the next leading IBF challenger. A later Hrgovic–Dubois rematch would then have both championship and personal history attached to it.

Until contracts and an event announcement are issued, Hrgovic–Dubois should be treated as an expressed target rather than a confirmed booking.
