Munguía survives sixth-round crisis to retain WBA crown
Jaime Munguía retained the WBA super-middleweight title in Riyadh, overcoming a serious sixth-round scare before controlling enough of the remaining rounds to earn a unanimous decision over Nikita Zon.
What happened
The judges scored the 12-round bout 117–111, 117–111 and 116–112 for Munguía. The result moved the champion to 47–2 (35 KOs), while Zon fell to 12–1–1 (10 KOs). The WBA had formally authorised the voluntary defence before the event.
Why it matters
Munguía keeps his place at the centre of the super-middleweight title picture, but Zon’s sixth-round success exposed defensive questions that future leading contenders will study.
What remains unconfirmed
No next opponent or mandatory defence timetable had been formally announced at publication.
